​​The Grade 9 Assessment of Mathematics is conducted by EQAO and measures student achievement of the Grade 9 expectations in
The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 9 and 10: Mathematics, 2005 (Revised). The assessment is intended to provide a snapshot of student achievement in mathematics to the end of Grade 9. There are two versions of the assessment: one for the applied mathematics program and one for the academic program.
The assessment gives students in the
applied mathematics program many opportunities to demonstrate what they know and what they can do in relation to the following three areas or mathematical “strands":
- Number Sense and Algebra
- Linear Relations
- Measurement and Geometry

Student work on the assessment is evaluated according to the expectations in
The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 9 and 10: Mathematics, 2005 (Revised). A four-level assessment scale that reflects the four achievement levels in The Ontario Curriculum, Grades 9 and 10: Mathematics, 2005 (Revised) is used to evaluate each student’s work. These four levels are:
- Level 4: Achievement that exceeds the provincial standard.
- Level 3: The provincial standard. This score identifies a high level of achievement of the provincial expectations.
- Level 2: Achievement that is approaching the provincial standard.
- Level 1: Achievement that falls below the provincial standard.
Board Results
Results from the 2018-2019 administration of the EQAO Grade 9 assessment of mathematics demonstrated continued high performance among Ji8¸£ÀûÍø students enrolled in academic mathematics. Increasing by 1% compared to the 2017-2018 performance, 88% of Ji8¸£ÀûÍø students taking Grade 9 academic mathematics achieved or exceeded the provincial standard in 2018-2019. Almost one half of students taking Grade 9 applied mathematics met or exceeded the provincial standard in 2018-2019. This proportion represents a decline compared to the previous assessment year. Consequently, Ji8¸£ÀûÍø continues to focus on improving achievement among students taking applied mathematics, so that many more of these students can meet or exceed the provincial standard in this important subject area in the near future.

Please note that St. Oscar Romero Catholic S.S. offers an Alternative Secondary Program and, depending on the scope of their studies, students may or may not complete the EQAO assessment of mathematics in Grade 9.​
