Community Use of Schools

Schools are the heart of the community and a convenient venue for recreational sports, education programs, group and corporate activities. School facilities provide a great place to come together, learn new skills, become physically active and build strong and healthy communities. Community groups are encouraged to utilize our spaces.

Community Use of Schools (CUS) is an initiative of the Ministry of Education that supports access to school space outside of school hours for community groups. Our school facilities are available for community use from mid-September to June, Monday to Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.

Our schools are not open for community use during Christmas, March and Summer Breaks or Statutory Holidays. Community Use permits for the upcoming school year are not accepted until approximately May of each year (unless otherwise specified). During this peak time, permit applications are reviewed and approved as soon as we can with user groups being advised of their approved school sites and specific dates for each permit. Once the permit is approved, an email copy will be sent to the individual making the request.

Field Permits
Occasionally some elementary school sports fields are permitted for public use between May 15 – August 31 annually. Secondary school sports fields are not available for permits. Field permits do not include access to indoor school space just the outdoor sports field. If you are interested in applying for a permit please submit the Permit Application Form.

Summer Camps
Some schools can be used to host Summer Camp programs and applications are reviewed on a case by cases bases due to site availability pending Board programs and renovation projects. If you are interested in applying for a permit, please submit the Permit Application Form.

Rates Categories & Fees
Please review the Permit Fee schedule to understand the rental rates and fees. Those applying to the rate categories of Registered Non-Profit Youth and Senior Groups or Registered Non-Profit Non-Catholic Worship Groups are required to provide proof of their charitable or non-profit status. Documents providing proof of Non-profit and or charitable status can be uploaded to your eBase permit account. These can be uploaded to the files section under your profile.

Permit Fees for the 2024-25 school year are effective for all permits with dates September 1, 2024 and onwards.

Insurance
All users of Dufferin Peel Catholic District School Board (Ji8��) facility permits must have liability insurance coverage for the activities to be held on Ji8�� facilities. Applicants are to submit their permit requests without proof of insurance. Once your permit request has been reviewed and is deemed to be approved, you will be asked by the Permits Department to provide a Certificate of Insurance within a specified time frame. If you do not have an insurance provider, then you may wish to purchase insurance through our User Group Insurance Program provider GameDay Insurance. Apply to Rent a Facility
You can rent a school facility using the online application system. If you are a new user you will need to create a new account or, if you are an existing user, you can simply login using your previously created account. Please review the Frequently Asked Question document and the Permit Terms and Conditions to understand the roles and responsibilities of the Permit holder and permitted activities. If you are unable to find the type of facility you are looking for through the online system please submit a Permit Application Form and the Permits Department will follow-up with you on the request.

Various child care services are available at many Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board schools. All programs are licensed by the provincial government and operated by autonomous child care agencies. Admission policies for all child care programs and the Board's schools are completely separate. Admittance to one does not automatically assure admittance to the other.

Weather Cancellations

BUS CANCELLATIONS

During the winter months, inclement weather and/or poor road conditions may cause the disruption of bus transportation and regular school operations. If buses are cancelled in a certain zone/region, schools will remain open to staff and students.

STUDENT TRANSPORTATION ZONES

For student transportation purposes, schools located in Mississauga, Brampton and Caledon (Peel Region), which are served by Student Transportation of Peel Region (STOPR), are divided into three transportation zones, ZONE 1, ZONE 2 and ZONE 3. Please refer to the Weather Zone Map and School Lists to find which zone your school is located within.

For student transportation purposes, Ji8��'s three schools located in Dufferin County (Orangeville), St. Andrew, St. Benedict, St. Peter Catholic Elementary Schools, are served by Service de Transport de Wellington-Dufferin Student Transportation Service (STWDSTS). Although R.F. Hall Catholic Secondary School is located in Peel Region, a significant segment of the school’s student population is transported from Dufferin County by STWDSTS.

NOTE: ALL R.F. HALL CATHOLIC SECONDARY SCHOOL STUDENT TRANSPORTATION IS CANCELLED ON DAYS WHEN BUSES ARE CANCELLED IN EITHER STOPR ZONE 3 OR IN DUFFERIN COUNTY ONLY.

WHAT IF MY SCHOOL IS LOCATED IN A ZONE THAT IS OPEN BUT IS SERVICED BY BUSES THAT ORIGINATE IN, OR TRAVEL THROUGH, ANOTHER ZONE WHERE BUSES ARE CANCELLED?

This scenario would only occur at a few Ji8�� schools. Additional messaging will be sent to families of those schools.

Student Transportation of Peel Region (STOPR)
Student Transportation of Peel Region (STOPR) is a consortium, formed by agreement between the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board and the Peel District School Board, for the purpose of providing a common administration of transportation services for students residing in the Region of Peel.

The STOPR website provides access to up-to-date information regarding delayed buses as well as bus cancellations due to inclement weather. This website also contains transportation policies, procedures, forms and frequently asked questions. Additionally, there is also a link from this website to businfo.stopr.ca which provides information as to school of attendance and eligibility for transportation. Wellington-Dufferin Student Transportation Services (STWDSTS)
Transportation of students in the County of Dufferin shall be provided by Wellington-Dufferin Student Transportation Services. STWDSTS is the consortium that has been established by the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board and the Upper Grand District School Board, under the Ministry of Education’s mandate, to provide transportation services for students within Dufferin County. Newcomer Reception & Assessment Centres

In harmony with the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board’s mission, and in partnership with schools, the Newcomer Reception and Assessment Centres provide families and students with a welcoming and supportive introduction to the Ontario school system. Through a clearly defined initial assessment process, the students’ abilities, talents and interests are recognized and shared, enabling a smoother entry into the school community.

What We Do:

Welcome newcomer students and their families
Introduce them to the Ontario elementary and secondary school system
Offer settlement support through Multicultural Settlement and Education Partnership (MSEP)
Assess English language proficiency and knowledge of mathematics
Suggest placement for secondary school students based on school transcripts, assessment results and age
Counsel secondary school students in choice of program/courses and post-secondary destinations
Send the assessment report to the school of registration

Who needs an assessment?

Any student who is new to Canada, entering the Ontario school system for the first time (Grade 1-12)
Any student from a French language school in Canada
Any student who is new to the Dufferin-Peel CDSB, without a Report Card, and who has been in the Ontario school system less than three months (e.g., transfers from other school boards)
Any student from the United States, United Kingdom, New Zealand, or Australia who has spent less than four years in an English language school system
Any student re-entering the Ontario school system, attended a foreign school system for at least one year
Any student who is new to the board without a Provincial Report Card from a Ministry approved private school or home school and who has been in the Ontario School System less than three months.

Who can register at Dufferin-Peel Catholic Schools?

Elementary admissions are open to Catholic children and children of Catholic parents. Secondary school admissions are under the provincially legislated Open Access and all students are admitted.

How to Register:

1. Parents/guardians are to register their child online using the Online Application System.

2. Receive email confirmation acknowledging receipt of the online Application Form with further instructions regarding providing supporting documentation. Once supporting documentation has been received at the school office and verified, registration is approved and the student is enrolled.

3. ESL/ELD teachers will book an assessment appointment with one of the Newcomer Reception and Assessment Centres. All elementary and secondary assessments will be completed in schools with an NRAC Teacher.

Length of assessment appointment:

Elementary Students: 1-2 hours
Secondary Students: 3-5 hours

Secondary School Registration

Secondary School Registration (Grades 9-12)

Under provincially legislated Open Access, students of both Separate (Catholic) School and Public School Supporters may attend Catholic secondary schools, subject to the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board's admissions requirements.

Note:

If your child is already enrolled in a Ji8�� elementary school, they will be automatically enrolled in their local Catholic secondary school for Grade 9.
Cardinal Ambrozic, St. Franics Xavier and St. Marcellinus Catholic Secondary Schools have limited registration availability.
To find out which Catholic school is in your area, use the Peel Region and Dufferin County Find My School tools or contact the Planning Department at 905-890-0708 ext. 24440.
If you are applying for admissions under 'Flex Boundaries', please contact the school office directly.
Secondary Student Transfer Request Form (for current Ji8�� students)
To enrol in a Secondary Regional Program (e.g. Advanced Placement, I.B., Arts, Sports), please contact the school directly for more information about the application process.
Entry Planning Form for Students with Differing Abilities
Completion of this form should only be done after parents/guardians have completed the online registration process. This form should only be completed for students who have higher needs (e.g. a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, medical needs, needs requiring equipment or specialized services, speech, vision or hearing needs, etc.)

SUPPORTING DOCUMENTATION

The following documents are required to complete the registration process. All documents MUST be submitted in English and be originals:

Proof of age of the child
Birth Certificate or passport.

Updated immunization records
Report your child's immunizations to Region of Peel Public Health or Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health online and give the reference number to your child's school when registering.

Proof of Canadian citizenship
Birth certificate, passport or permanent resident status.

Proof of home address
Two of the following: property tax bill, current utility bill, electronic bill, real estate document or Government of Canada issued forms. On a case-by-case basis, consideration for any special circumstance shall go through the respective Superintendent or Admissions Officer. If the lease agreement is the sole documentation and not a standard lease form, it should be notarized/Commissioner of Oath.

Kindergarten Registration

Ji8�� offers the full-day Kindergarten program in 125 Catholic elementary schools in Mississauga, Brampton, Caledon, Bolton and Orangeville. Elementary school admissions are open to Catholic children and children of Catholic parents. Kindergarten students must be at least 4 years of age by December 31 of the school year for which they are registering.

Elementary admissions are open to Catholic children and children of Catholic parents.

NOTICES:

All elementary schools are currently accepting new registrations for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 school years, unless specified below.
St. Sofia Catholic Elementary School is currently at capacity. All new students seeking enrolment will be be directed to their local attendance boundary Ji8�� elementary school for the 2022-23 school year.

For your child to attend a Catholic elementary school in the Dufferin-Peel Catholic District School Board, you MUST be registered as an English Separate (Catholic) School Supporter on your municipal property tax designation.

By directing your tax support to the separate (Catholic) school system:

your children may attend Catholic elementary schools
you may vote for Catholic school trustees in municipal elections
you show your support for the Catholic school system

Who is eligible to be an English Separate (Catholic) school supporter?
You can direct your support to the English Separate (Catholic) school system on your property taxes, if you own or lease/property in the Ji8�� catchment area and are Roman Catholic.
Note: If one of the homeowners are non-Catholic, that owner can only support the public school system and vote for a public school trustee.

To verify that you are registered as an English Separate (Catholic) school supporter:

Check the assessment section of your Tax Bill or Property Assessment Notice
Check your Voter Information Card received during an election year

Have you moved?

Even if you have been an English Separate (Catholic) School Supporter in the past, the designation DOES NOT follow you when you move. By default, your property taxes support your municipality's English public school board. Every time you move or if there is a change of ownership, it is essential that you register as an English Separate (Catholic) school supporter.

All Catholics are eligible to support Catholic education!

Catholic ratepayers who don't currently have children in the Catholic school system are also important to the continuation of our Catholic education system. Direction of school support should be made even if you don't have children currently attending school. It is an investment in our Catholic education system and all Catholic ratepayers are partners with Catholic educators in this investment.

Separate School Lease Agreement Form
A Separate School Lease Agreement is an additional document required by the government, which allows people, jointly responsible for the payment of property taxes, either directly through ownership or indirectly through the payment of rent, one of whom is non-Catholic, to direct school support to the Catholic system.
